Reverend Debra L. Camphor serves as the current Church Administrator and Executive Assistant to both Drs. Christine and Dennis Wiley of Covenant Baptist United Church of Christ (CBUCC). Reverend Camphor’s service at CBUCC spans over a thirty-year period. Reverend Camphor has an extensive leadership background. She served as a Sunday School teacher; Youth Ministry coordinator; Vacation Bible School coordinator and teacher; various offices as a member of the Voices of Unity choir, directed by Dr. Dennis Wiley and the Mass. She also serves as the Assistant Coordinator for the Communication Ministry; and is currently a member of the Ministerial Team. Presently, serving as Church Administrator, Reverend Camphor works closely with both Drs. Christine and Dennis Wiley, along with the many ministry leaders, members of Covenant, other church leaders, and faith-based organizations, which includes Federal and DC government officials. Reverend Camphor oversees the day-to-day activities as well as plans for all future programs. She is a viable link and serves with a warm and Christ-like spirit.

As the Ministerial Advisor for Sister-to-Sister, Women’s Ministry, Reverend Camphor works with a well-organized and committed group of women whom she mentors and encourages to take on various leadership roles in this ministry and throughout the church. Under her leadership, Reverend Camphor has led retreats and Bible studies, provided clothing to women living in shelters; she also holds creative monthly meetings and spearheads the Women’s Day programs and other activities. Reverend Camphor’s goal working with women is to empower them by providing a variety of spiritual and holistic activities designed to enhance their relationship with the Lord Jesus Christ.

Reverend Camphor retired from a successful career with the U.S. Department of Labor (DOL) in 2007. While at DOL, Reverend Camphor was responsible for leading 23 Federal agencies to participate in several high level speakers’ forums for Federal Senior Executives. For ten years, from 1993 to 2003, Reverend Camphor served as the Program Manager for DOL’s Clerical/Administrative Support Program where she hired, supervised, trained, and found permanent positions for a cadre of diverse and highly motivated and skilled employees ready to serve departmental managers by providing a multiplicity of administrative services.

Reverend Camphor is a native Washingtonian and attended DC Public Schools; however, due to her early marriage and teen pregnancy, Reverend Camphor successfully received her GED certificate. In May 2000, she graduated Cum Laude from Trinity College with a Bachelor’s Degree in Communications. In May 2012, she graduated with a Masters of Divinity from Wesley Theological Seminary.

In the fall of 2004, Reverend Camphor preached her initial sermon and was licensed at Covenant Baptist United Church of Christ to function in ministry as opportunities were presented her and to exercise her God-given gifts in ministry. On November 2, 2012, she was ordained along with four other women, marking this as an historical event in CBUCC.

Raised in the DC foster care system until age 17, family is very important to Reverend Camphor. She is the mother of one son, Kenneth, Jr. and the mother-in-law to Marion (Nesie) Williams. Reverend Camphor has four grandchildren, grandsons: Steven and Kenion Camphor, two granddaughters: Markia and Maria Williams; and three great grandchildren, Khalia and Payton (great granddaughters) and Steven Khamari (great grandson).
